Cincinnati turned a good effort from starter John Wright into a win over the Boston Whistlers at The Castle. The Royals won the game, 2-1. Wright got the win, improving to 1-1. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Gordie Clifford, who leads the NC in saves with 45, earned the save for Cincinnati.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Mike Pelter came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Boston pitcher Jose Rivera, he hit a full count sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cincinnati on top, 2-1.

Wright attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."

The first-place Whistlers have dropped 6 straight games.
