The Austin Desperados got a magnificent effort from pitcher Victor Angel, who kept Fountain Hills hitters in check en route to a 3-1 Desperados win at Fountain Park. Angel yielded 1 run over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-3. Joe McLaughlin closed the door for Austin, picking up his 36th save of the year.
In the top of the sixth, with the game tied, the 23ers allowed the Desperados to take a 2-1 lead on a base hit and Fountain Hills error.
"Victor -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Desperados manager Tim Ward. "He was the key to us winning."
The Desperados sit in second place in the American Conference South Division with a record of 84-65.
