Halifax Absorbs 3-2 Loss to Detroit
The Detroit Giants topped the Halifax Heathens, 3-2, in American Conference action at Ballpark of Detroit. The standout performance belonged to Detroit pitcher and Lincoln, Nebraska, native Quito Herrera. Herrera, the winner, moves to 8-14. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 4 walks. Lee Maher notched his 25th save in 32 chances.

Ruben Cabriales had a big run-scoring double for the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Ray Fight and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 31st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 3-0.

"Quito is a tough competitor," said Detroit manager Blake Barber.

The Giants improved their record to 57-92 with the win over Halifax.
