Penland Hammers 2 Homers in 4-2 Win
|
The New York Nightmare downed the Phoenix Gladiators, 4-2. The hitting star was second baseman Robby Penland. Penland went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Nightmare. Andy Shoemaker got the win, improving to 11-6. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Earning his 5th save of the year was Brian Prince.
With New York trailing 2-1 in the top of the fifth, Penland hit a curveball from Jonathan Roten for a 2-run home run. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the Nightmare ahead, 3-2.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Penland.
New York is in third place in the American Conference North East Division with a record of 68-79.
