Shiners Win at Home, 5-3
|
Josh Reed, who leads the NC in wins with 16, propelled his team to victory over the Vancouver Mounties. The final score was 5-3, Charleston. The first-place Shiners, at 82-65, now lead their division by 5½ games.
Ty Beckford had a big 2-run double for the Shiners in the bottom of the third inning. With Charleston leading 3-1 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a cutter from Lance Goecker, who is tied for 9th in the NC with a 5.8 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 18th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Shiners ahead, 5-1.
"I like our moxie," said Shiners manager Chad Hart.
