The Fountain Hills 23ers besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Austin right fielder Leo Serna by beating the Desperados, 7-6, at Fountain Park. Serna was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Stuart Taylor picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 4-6. Byron Stanton suffered the loss. Jaheim Johnson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 16 save opportunities.

Had Scott Zembower not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Zembower hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the 23ers.

"You can't hate how you win if you win," said Fountain Hills skipper Efren Nieman.

With the win over Austin, the 23ers improved to 71-76.
