Shiners Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Charleston Shiners found a way to sneak past the Syracuse Scorpions, 5-4, in 11 innings. Charleston pitcher Andy Weatherholt, for one, had a standout performance. After today's action, Charleston sits at 77-67, while Syracuse falls to 62-82.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 11th, 23-year old left fielder Mark Root had a chance to be the hero. Syracuse pitcher Ken Allbaugh wanted to foil that plan. But with no outs, Root hit a sacrifice fly. The Shiners had themselves a thrilling win.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Charleston manager Chad Hart.
