The Gangsters grabbed a win, 3-0, at Ahoy Park, overcoming a fine effort from Tampa Bay pitcher Toshimichi Miyakawa. Miyakawa went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Mike Walter earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 1-0. Nick Slover converted his 10th save in 11 tries.
Nick Pratt, who led the NC in on-base percentage with .379 in 2017, had a direct impact on the outcome. Pratt contributed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put Chicago up, 2-0.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Pratt.
The Gangsters raised their record to 48-95.
