Stars Come Up Short at Detroit, 3-2
The Detroit Giants and Hollywood Stars played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.

The Detroit Giants beat the Hollywood Stars, 3-2, at Ballpark of Detroit. The Giants got a fine performance from second baseman Fernando Espindola, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Lee Maher closed it out for Detroit, earning his 34th save.

Espindola contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Detroit in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Espindola took a curveball from Bobby Nowlin and stroked the home run to center. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Giants to leap in front, 3-2.

Espindola called the win a testament to his team's "grit."
