Fountain Hills Beats San Diego, 3-2
|
The Fountain Hills 23ers took San Diego pitcher B.J. Gonzalez's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Peter Seidler Memorial Stadium. The final score had Fountain Hills getting past the Fleet, 3-2. Gonzalez went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 9. The winner was Brian Wilkey, who threw 98 pitches over 6.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits. Jaheim Johnson earned the save for Fountain Hills, his 12th.
Fountain Hills used a timely hit from Jim Gavilanes to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the 23ers ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Gavilanes, "and then get after it again."
The win puts the 23ers at 68-69, while the Fleet drop to 84-53.
