Dallas Dragons starter Matt Schmid pitched his team past the Maine Pines, 4-1. Schmid, now 7-5, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 11, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Rick Ways recorded the save for Dallas, his 11th of the season.
Dallas used a well-timed hit by Justin Bellamy to capture the win. The left fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Dragons ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"Matt giving us the start that he did was huge," said Dallas manager Juan Gonzales.
The last-place Dragons now sit at 26-31.
