Fire Get Hard-Earned Win
Well, that's how to end a game in style.

The San Francisco Fire did just enough to secure a victory over the Detroit Giants, 8-7, in 13 innings at San Francisco Grounds. Nobody did more than center fielder Rich Tangorra. Ron Lombardi earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 2-1.

The Fire relied on left fielder Jim Hofland for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 13th, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.

"The ending was a real humdinger," Hofland told reporters after the game.

The slumping Giants have lost 6 straight.
