Charleston Beats Boston, 6-0
|
The Boston Whistlers got a sterling performance from pitcher Scott Johnson, but the Charleston Shiners still prevailed, 6-0. Johnson threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Chris Phillips, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. The first-place Shiners, at 76-59, now lead their division by 7 games.
One pivotal at-bat came with one out in the top of the fifth. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Boston trailing 3-0, Chris Phillips needed to bear down against Dillon Rodriquez. Phillips won the battle, as Rodriquez grounded out and the Shiners went on to win.
