Fountain Hills Defeated By Fire, 3-2

Miguel Leon pitched well, but the Fountain Hills 23ers still lost the game, falling, 3-2, to the San Francisco Fire at San Francisco Grounds. Chris Verellen, the winner, is now 10-9. He struck out 6 and walked 2 over 6.1 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits. Adam Holland, who is a two-time All-Star, nailed down the save.
The 23ers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Fire going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old center fielder Raul Arreola came to the plate. Arreola hit a 3-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Fountain Hills hurler Miguel Leon. It was Arreola's 10th home run of the year.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Fountain Hills manager Efren Nieman. "We just didn't cash in."
San Francisco is second in the National Conference West Division with a record of 63-70.
