The Tampa Bay Captains knocked off the Charleston Sea Dogs, 5-1, in American Conference action at Ahoy Park. Tampa Bay pitcher and Trenton, Michigan, native Phil Gregoire had an outstanding performance. The second-place Captains bumped their record to 59-73.

The Captains got a big hit from center fielder Ron Eckhardt. Facing Charleston pitcher Jim Savoie in the bottom of the fifth, Eckhardt pounded a run-scoring double to left-center. His 26th double of the season put the Captains ahead, 3-1.

Eckhardt attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
