Syracuse wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Ritsuo Matsuoka, falling to the Vancouver Mounties, 3-2. Matsuoka threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Vancouver reliever Paul Kreger was the winner. His record is now 3-5. The losing pitcher was Chris Dries. The victory gives Vancouver a record of 74-57.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 13th inning, when Vancouver shortstop Jimmy Jones, facing Chris Dries, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Mounties the 3-2 win.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Jones.
