The Tampa Bay Captains picked up a win at Ahoy Park, taking down the Chicago Gangsters, 8-2. Starting pitcher Bobby Purdy was a big reason why. In 7 innings, Purdy surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. At 58-73, the Captains claim second place in the American Conference Central Division.

The Gangsters had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Captains going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old designated hitter Marcus Greene came to the plate. Greene hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 sinker from Chicago hurler Phil Dalton. It was Greene's 25th double of the year.
