John Froerer, who finished 2nd in the AC in strikeouts with 316 last year, was locked in. The right-hander led the Syracuse Scorpions to a 3-0 win against the Tampa Bay Captains at Scorpion Stadium. Elijah Miller closed it out for his 28th save. The Scorpions raised their record to 46-85.
The Captains had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Scorpions going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old first baseman Matthew Anders came to the plate. Anders hit a 3-run home run on a full count changeup from Tampa Bay hurler Ben O'Halloran. It was Anders's 5th home run of the year.
"I had one goal in mind," said Froerer. "Keep pounding the zone."
