Gangsters Lose to Captains, 8-2
|
2025 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Chicago Gangsters.
The Tampa Bay Captains cut down the Chicago Gangsters by the score of 8-2, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Jonathan McCarthy. McCarthy was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Captains. Jeremy Schroeter, the winning pitcher, improved to 10-10. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 2.
McCarthy contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Tampa Bay in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, McCarthy took a splitter from Bobby Nowlin and stroked the double to center. His 42nd double of the season allowed the Captains to leap in front, 2-1.
"Things went our way," said McCarthy.
Tampa Bay is 57-73 and Chicago, with the loss, 46-84.
