Caribou Score Late to Beat Fleet, 8-7
|
The Vancouver Caribou outlasted Ed Woodside and the San Diego Fleet, 8-7. Woodside was impressive in the loss. The San Diego center fielder went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Sean Ryan, credited with the win in relief, is now 5-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. The Caribou go to 67-62, putting them second in the National Conference West Division.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 23-year old shortstop John Hunt had a chance to be the hero. San Diego pitcher Brad Antol had other ideas. But with one out, Hunt hit a sacrifice fly. The Caribou had themselves a dramatic win.
"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Hunt said.
