The Syracuse Scorpions rode a solid performance from 29-year-old starting pitcher John Froerer to a win, beating the Tampa Bay Captains, 5-1, at Scorpion Stadium. The third-place Captains dropped to 55-74.

Juan Lira, who is the 4th-best prospect in the Scorpions organization, took Tampa Bay hurler Ben O'Halloran deep in the bottom of the seventh. His 3-run home run put the Scorpions on top, 4-1. In all, Lira had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

Syracuse manager Ricardo Lopez said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
