Gavilanes Goes Deep Twice in 3-1 Royals Win
|
King George Park was the site of a competitive game between the Stockton Ragin Cajuns and Cornwall Royals.
The Cornwall Royals defeated the Stockton Ragin Cajuns by the score of 3-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Jim Gavilanes. Gavilanes went 3-3 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Royals on the day. Cornwall reliever Dave Barncord got the win, raising his record to 4-2. Enrique Perez was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Chris Porter, his 13th.
Gavilanes had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Enrique Perez, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Royals a 3-1 lead. It was the 7th home run of the year for Gavilanes.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Cornwall skipper Ivan Cabrera.
At 23-30, Cornwall is in 4th place in the Western AA Coastal Division.
