Desperados Snatch Late Win
|
The Indianapolis Eagles got a superb performance from second baseman Henry Cortez, but the Austin Desperados still won the game, 6-4. Cortez went 2-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Austin reliever Lorenzo Andrade picked up the win, raising his record to 1-0. Travis Thurber was tagged with the loss. The Desperados, at 30-24, sit in first place in the American Conference South Division.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Jake Way came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Indianapolis pitcher Billy Westcott, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Austin on top, 6-4.
Austin manager Adam Ponder was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
