Griffitt, Gangsters Too Much for Scorpions
|
Conditions were not ideal but Chicago and Syracuse were able to put their game in the books.
Ryan Griffitt, who led the NC in extra base hits with 83 in 2015, led Chicago to a triumph over Syracuse. The final score was 5-3. The designated hitter went 4 for 4, falling a triple shy of the cycle. He scored 1 run and added 3 RBI. Mike Walter sewed up the save, his 12th.
With Chicago leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Griffitt hit a solo home run off Syracuse hurler Ritsuo Matsuoka. It was the 5th home run of the season for Griffitt and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"I still have a lot of confidence in this team," Chicago manager Brandon Harper said afterward.
The Gangsters improved their record to 22-29 by beating Syracuse.
