Whistlers Lose, 4-1, to Tampa Bay
|
The Tampa Bay Captains beat the Boston Whistlers, 4-1, at Whislters Park. Starting pitcher Joe Bernard was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Bernard, now 4-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Captains are 17-33.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Ron Eckhardt? The 27-year old center fielder Eckhardt stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put Tampa Bay up, 4-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
Tampa Bay manager Jalen Armour called it "a pretty good win."
