Black Performance to No Avail in 11-5 Nightmare Loss
The inspired effort of New York designated hitter Rob Black was not enough to prevent a loss, 11-5, to the Boston Whistlers. Black hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Boston pitcher Matthew Rowlands got the win. He's now 1-0. Andy Shoemaker was tagged with the loss. New York drops to 1-4.

Carlos Herrera had a big 2-run double for the Whistlers in the bottom of the second inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a knuckle curve from two-time All-Star Andy Shoemaker and swatted a double to right. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Whistlers ahead, 3-0.

"We'll take some time to unwind," said Herrera, "and then get after it again."
