Shiners Get Past Detroit for 2-1 Win
Starting pitcher Josh Reed was a major factor in the 2-1 Charleston Shiners triumph over the Detroit Giants. The winner was Charleston reliever Jon Reynolds, now 2-0. The loser was Devin Wickliffe. Shane Kidd earned the save, his 3rd.

Charleston needed the clutch hitting of Cole Calkins to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Shiners on top, 2-1. For the game, Calkins had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.

"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," Calkins told the Charleston News.

At 25-20, the Shiners claim second place in the National Conference South Division.
