Rodrigo Lemus, who finished 2nd in the NC in innings pitched with 210.0 last year, never let the Royals get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Fleet to a win, 4-1. Lorenzo Landin recorded the save for San Diego, his 5th of the season. The third-place Fleet are now 22-23, the Royals 25-20.

It could have been a different outcome for San Diego, had it not been for Mike MacPherson, the 23-year old third baseman . MacPherson contributed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put San Diego up, 3-1.

"Rodrigo was able to execute his pitches," said San Diego manager Brian Burnett. "Simple as that."
