Giants Spill Sea Turtles, 5-2
|
The Detroit Giants racked up a win at Ballpark of Detroit, bumping off the Daytona Beach Sea Turtles, 5-2. Quito Herrera, who started for Detroit, pitched effectively for his team. The Giants are now 21-24.
Bob Gilmore had a big run-scoring double for the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Oscar Ayala and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 2-0.
"We have a lot of confidence in Quito," said Detroit manager Sean O'Leary.
