Reapers Score Late to Beat Nightmare, 5-4
|
The New York Nightmare got a whale of a performance from pitcher Jose Contreras, but the Carolina Reapers still prevailed, 5-4, in 15 innings. Contreras threw 5.2 innings allowing 2 runs. Vinny Narvaez earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. His record is now 3-2. Justin Berry closed the door for Carolina, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Jose Lazaro delivered a big hit for Carolina. The designated hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the 15th inning to put the Reapers ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Lazaro said in reaction to the win.
The second-place Reapers have a record of 22-21.
