Kirkham Hits 3 home runs in Whistlers Win
The 10-6 Boston win over Detroit was due in large part to Willie Kirkham. The Whistlers right fielder belted 3 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring three times. The winning pitcher was Antonio Higuera. His record now stands at 1-0. The right-hander went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits for the Whistlers. The loss puts Detroit at 2-3.

With Boston leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Kirkham hit a fastball from Justin Thompson for a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Whistlers ahead, 3-0.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Kirkham told a Boston Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
