The Fountain Hills 23ers besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Syracuse second baseman Donovan Widmer by beating the Scorpions, 9-5, at Fountain Park. Widmer was 1 for 2 with 3 walks. He scored 2 runs. Syracuse falls to 1-4.

Scott Zembower had a big 3-run home run for the 23ers in the bottom of the third inning. With Fountain Hills leading 4-3 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a splitter from 27-year old right-handed pitcher Brett Emma and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the 23ers on top, 7-3.

"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Zembower said.
