Ballpark of Charleston was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.

Pitcher Steve Cates was sensational for the Carolina Reapers in his team's 1-0 triumph over the Charleston Sea Dogs. Cates earned the win. Jake Schmitt was called on to finish, recording his 6th save.

In his 100-pitch effort, Cates allowed no runs on 1 hit over 6.1 innings. He walked 4 and struck out 9.

"Bottom line," said Charleston skipper Chad Hart, "we didn't play well enough to win."

The Reapers saw their win-loss record go to 53-75. At the same time, the Sea Dogs fell to 84-44.
