The inspired effort of Chicago catcher Josh Kuhn was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-7, to the Phoenix Gladiators. Kuhn went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Phoenix reliever Josh Shropshire was the winner. His record is now 2-4. Ruben Lopez took the loss. Phoenix is now 62-65, while Chicago is 45-82.

Del Rio, Texas-born Pat Bounds came through in the clutch. In the top of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Gladiators trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Phoenix on top.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Bounds said.
