The Oakland Invaders defeated the New York Nightmare, 7-1, in National Conference action at Howard Terminal. Steve McKinstry pulled his weight. The 9-year veteran went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Steve Bueno snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits over 2.2 innings. He's now 3-1 on the season. Colin Lambert earned the save for Oakland, his 1st.
There was more than one reason the Invaders beat the Nightmare, but McKinstry's big at-bat in the bottom of the first was an important factor. He staked his team to a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said McKinstry.
The last-place Nightmare have dropped 4 straight games.
