Eagles Come Up Short at San Francisco, 5-4
|
The San Francisco Fire picked up a win at San Francisco Grounds, topping the Indianapolis Eagles, 5-4. On the mound for San Francisco was right-hander James Dobyns. He played a principal role in the triumph. The second-place Eagles dropped to 24-17.
San Francisco second baseman Dusty Ward said the only thing on his mind when he came to bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the sixth was making good contact. He did that much, and more! Ward hit a solo home run to stake San Francisco to a 4-3 lead. His 11th home run of the season came off Indianapolis pitcher Tyler Doss.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Dobyns.
