The Syracuse Scorpions went home winners at Tennant Healthcare Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter Matt Simpson. Simpson stifled the Dallas Dragons, enabling Syracuse to grab the 2-1 win. In 7.2 innings, Simpson surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Elijah Miller was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 9 save opportunities.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Chris Service? The Syracuse designated hitter had a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning to put the Scorpions on top, 1-0. For the game, Service had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Scorpions manager Ricardo Lopez, "I like our chances."

The third-place Scorpions now sit at 53-69.
