Behind an impressive start by J.R. Mitchell, Austin beat Santa Fe, 4-2. The winning pitcher was Mitchell, now 8-12. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 6. The second-place Desperados now have a win-loss record of 65-56.
Austin relied on the hitting of Eric Druin to pick up the win. The first baseman ripped a run-scoring triple in the top of the fifth inning to put the Desperados on top, 2-1. For the game, Druin had 1 triple and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Mitchell said.
