Invaders Reel In 5-3 Win
|
Howard Terminal was the site of a competitive game between the Detroit Giants and Oakland Invaders.
Oakland pitcher Randy Fischer had a large part in his team beating the Detroit Giants, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The win was credited to 25-year old left-handed pitcher Rich Hepler in relief. His record improves to 5-3. Mike Wroten took the loss. Chris Graham, who finished 2nd in the NC in wins with 17 in 2016, nailed down the save.
Jim Henkemeyer drew 1 walk in 4 plate appearances against the Giants. With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run that put Oakland in front, 2-1.
"Randy was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Oakland manager Dong-young Kang.
Oakland, at 55-65, sits in second place in the National Conference South Division.
