Crown Trip Giants, 5-4, in Extra Innings
|
The Detroit Giants could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mike Wroten into a win. Instead, the Carolina Crown prevailed, 5-4. Wroten threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball. Chase Lovett, now 6-6, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. Carolina, now 51-69, holds down last place in the National Conference South Division.
The Crown got a clutch hit from designated hitter Bob de Leon. In the bottom of the 17th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Crown.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," de Leon said.
