Philadelphia Absorbs 4-3 Loss to Charleston
|
The performance of Juan Ortiz proved critical in helping Charleston beat Philadelphia, 4-3. The Sea Dogs first baseman was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. The winner was Charleston reliever Tony Casablanca, now 6-0. The loser was Tom Herzing. Matt Schapp, credited with the save, is now 4 for 5 in save opportunities.
Had Tim Hutchison not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hutchison hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Sea Dogs.
"The team always comes first," Ortiz told a reporter while responding to autograph requests. "Our fans like to come out to see a win, so I'm happy to do what I can to give them that."
The Sea Dogs lead the National Conference South Division by 23 games.
