Mendez Stars in 7-1 Eagles Win
|
The exploits of third baseman Victor Mendez, who is tied for 8th in the NC in runs scored with 25, helped the Indianapolis Eagles defeat the San Diego Fleet, 7-1. Mendez went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Jesse Walker went 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The right-hander, who is tied for 7th in the NC with a 9.9 K/9 rate, struck out 6 and walked 1. With the win, he's now 3-2 this season. Justin Thompson earned the save for Indianapolis, his 1st of the year.
Bobby Butler hit a 2-run triple off Takeji Takano in the bottom of the third, which put the Eagles in front, 3-1. Butler had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Brian Burnett.
Indianapolis goes to 25-16, San Diego to 21-20.
