Fleet Roll Past Pines, 6-2

The first-place San Diego Fleet took on the Maine Pines in front of a spirited crowd.
San Diego got a strong outing from Felipe Ayala as the Fleet defeated the Maine Pines, 6-2, at Peter Seidler Memorial Stadium. The winning pitcher was Ayala, now 17-3. He tossed 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Travis Erb closed the door for San Diego, picking up his 9th save of the year.
Josh Law, who finished 3rd in the NC in runs with 106 in 2017, helped out the San Diego cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the third baseman went 1 for 4, while scoring 2 times.
"Felipe was able to execute his pitches," said San Diego manager Brian Burnett. "Simple as that."
The first-place Fleet, at 72-46, now lead their division by 10 games.
