Austin wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Joe Townsend, falling to the Syracuse Scorpions, 7-3. Townsend threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Syracuse reliever Dave Holzman snagged the win, upping his record to 2-2. Bill Reno shouldered the loss. The Syracuse win streak is now 3 games.

Had Ryan Mallory not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mallory hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Scorpions.

"I felt good up there," said Mallory. "I saw the ball well."
