Phoenix Tumbles Again, Falls, 4-1, to Tampa Bay
|
The Phoenix Gladiators got a superb performance from pitcher Oscar Malave, but the Tampa Bay Captains still won the game, 4-1. Malave threw 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs. Matt Jackson picked up the win in relief. Oscar Malave took the loss for Phoenix. Getting the save was Jesse Vecchio, his 7th.
The Gladiators had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Captains going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Jonathan McCarthy came to the plate. McCarthy hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 slider from Phoenix hurler Oscar Malave. It was McCarthy's 36th double of the year.
"We're not really clicking on anything right now," said Phoenix manager .
Tampa Bay is now 56-61.
