Royals Grind Out 2-1 Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Cincinnati Royals and the New York Nightmare, pitcher Andy Dooley was the difference between victory and defeat. The Cincinnati right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Royals win. Dooley yielded no runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. His record improves to 6-8. Wayne Harless closed the door for Cincinnati, picking up his 38th save of the year.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Royals had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fourth, when third baseman Jay Bloms hit a 2-run single. The single came off Pat Hovhannisian and made the score 2-0, Royals. Bloms went 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Bloms.
The third-place Royals lifted their record to 67-48.
