The Tampa Bay Captains got a stellar effort from pitcher Jeremy Schroeter, helping Tampa Bay score a win over the visiting Vancouver Caribou, 3-2. Schroeter, the winner, moves to 8-9. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. With this game in the books, Tampa Bay is 50-65, Vancouver 61-54.
The Captains got a big hit from center fielder Ron Eckhardt. Facing Vancouver pitcher Nick Douglass in the bottom of the fifth, Eckhardt pounded a run-scoring double to left. His 23rd double of the season put the Captains ahead, 3-1.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Schroeter said.
