Krueger Delivers Walk-Off Win for Reapers
|
Despite the exploits of center fielder John Austin, the Austin Desperados were beaten by the Carolina Reapers, 5-4, in 12 innings. Austin went 3-5 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Carolina reliever Jake Schmitt picked up the win. Ivan Esparza, who is tied for 2nd in the AC in complete games with 1, took the loss for Austin. With the win over Austin, the Reapers improved to 44-67.
Up to bat in the bottom of the 12th, 27-year old third baseman Tom Krueger had a chance to be the hero. Austin pitcher Ivan Esparza wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Krueger drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Reapers had themselves a thrilling win.
"Sometimes winning takes more than 27 outs," said Reapers manager Julio Rodriguez.
