Heathens Score Late to Upend Sea Turtles, 6-3
|
The Heathens grabbed a win, 6-3, at Leatherback Park, overcoming a fine effort from Daytona Beach pitcher Oscar Ayala. Ayala went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Jose Ojeda came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. His record now stands at 4-1. Halifax, at 71-39, is 12½ games up in the American Conference South Division.
Halifax used a timely hit from John Karpf to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Heathens ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Karpf.
