The Chicago Gangsters could not turn a fine performance from center fielder Alfredo Cruz into a win. Instead, the Carolina Reapers prevailed, 7-4. Cruz went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. John Salgado earned the save for Carolina, his 8th. The Reapers improved their record to 18-20 with the win over Chicago.
Carolina won the game in part because of Mike Green. The right fielder ripped a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Reapers ahead, 5-3. For the game, Green had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Carolina manager Julio Rodriguez.
