The Tampa Bay Captains picked up a win at Gladiators Ballpark, knocking off the Phoenix Gladiators, 3-2. On the mound for Tampa Bay was left-hander Edwin Montez. He played a key role in the triumph. Earning his 8th save for Tampa Bay was Jason Washington.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Alex Mendoza? The 30-year old first baseman Mendoza stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Tampa Bay up, 3-2. For the game, he was 3 for 5, including 1 double and 2 singles.

"I managed to get ahead of guys and keep them at bay," said Montez.

With the win, the Captains are 11-26.
