Soggy conditions did not keep Charleston and Halifax from playing their scheduled game.
Starting pitcher Josh Reed gave the Charleston Shiners a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Halifax Heathens, 3-2, at Ballpark of Charleston. Reed, now 2-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. Jon Reynolds closed it out for Charleston, earning his 2nd save.
Fred Hernandez swatted a 2-run home run for Charleston in the bottom of the third. The left fielder went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 3.
"The only difference is executing pitches and not executing pitches," said Reed. "When you don't execute, you get beat. When you execute, you usually give your team a chance to win."
The third-place Shiners improved to 17-17.
