Gladiators Even Record with 6-5 Victory
|
Phoenix starter Rob Alvarez pitched effectively against the Daytona Beach Sea Turtles at Leatherback Park. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-5. Alvarez, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. Manny Brant closed the game out for Phoenix, earning his 9th save.
Victor Gonzalez supported the Phoenix cause with one out in the top of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Phoenix leading 1-0, he hit a sacrifice fly.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Alvarez, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
With the loss, Daytona Beach drops to 10-20.
